Donor-Advised Funds

Harness the giving power of a private foundation—without the complexity

A donor-advised fund gives you the flexibility to recommend how much and how often money is granted to St. John’s Ministries and other qualified charities. You can recommend a grant or recurring grants now to make an immediate impact or use your fund as a tool for future charitable gifts.

You can also create a lasting legacy by naming St. John’s Ministries the beneficiary of the entire account or a percentage of the fund. With a percentage, you can create a family legacy of giving by naming your loved ones as your successor to continue recommending grants to charitable organizations. Contact your fund administrator for a beneficiary form.

If you include Feeding America Eastern Wisconsin in your plans, please use our legal name and federal tax ID.

Workplace Giving

Find Out If Your Employer Matches Gifts | Making a matching gift to St. John’s Ministries is easy!

Double your impact through a matching gift program, where an employer or company will match donations to charitable organizations. These matches are often dollar for dollar, which doubles your charitable-donation power and is a great way to maximize your personal contributions to St. John’s Ministries. To find out if your company has a matching gift policy, contact your Human Resources Department. If your company is eligible, request a matching gift form from your employer, and send it completed and signed with your gift. We will do the rest. You may also inquire about other charitable gift opportunities your employer may offer to you and your spouse.

Completed company matching gift forms can be sent with your personal gift to:

St. John’s Ministries
PO Box 1743
Green Bay, WI 54305

Thank you for making St. John’s Ministries your charitable choice! If your company doesn’t have a matching gift program please consider making a  one-time gift to St. John’s Ministries.

IRA Qualified Charitable Distributions

If you are 70½ years old and older you can give up to $100,000 per year from your IRA directly to a qualified charity such as St. John’s Ministries without having to pay income taxes on the money. This popular gift option is commonly called an IRA charitable rollover or a qualified charitable distribution (QCD for short).

Why consider this gift?

  • Your gift will be put to immediate use, allowing you to see the difference it is making in our community.
  • Beginning in the year you turn 72, you can use your gift to satisfy all or part of your required minimum distribution (RMD).
  • You pay no income taxes on the gift. The transfer generates neither taxable income nor a tax deduction, so you benefit even if you do not itemize your deductions. (Important tip: to avoid paying income taxes on this distribution, you must have the plan administrator pay the charitable organization directly. DO NOT take the distribution and gift the charity yourself.)
  • Since the gift doesn’t count as income, it can reduce your annual income level. This may help lower your Medicare premiums and decrease the amount of Social Security that is subject to tax.

Tip: It’s important that you let us know of your gift because most retirement plan administrators do not provide us with the name of the person doing the gifting. We would like the opportunity to acknowledge your generosity. If preferred, you may remain anonymous and your gift will be kept confidential, but knowing where our gifts come from is important for our record keeping.

Bequests

One of the most powerful ways to advance St. John’s Ministries for the common good – and to create a legacy for yourself – is to include St. John’s Ministries in your will.

You may want to consider establishing a permanent endowment fund to provide lasting support to St. John’s. Endowment gifts work the same for St. John’s as retirement funds work for individuals. They are resources set aside for the future. We also hope you will think of us with a contribution through your will or living trust to create a lasting legacy. Your generosity will help us continue our mission of providing care for the most vulnerable in our community for generations to come.

Tip: If you choose to support us through your estate plans, please let us know so we may properly acknowledge your generosity. If preferred, you may remain anonymous and your gift will be kept confidential, but knowledge of your gift will enable us to better plan for the future.

Gifts of Stock (appreciated assets)

When you donate appreciated assets (i.e. stocks or mutual funds), you can potentially save on two types of taxes while knowing you are making a huge, immediate difference in our community. First, you reduce or even eliminate federal capital gains taxes on the transfer. And second, you may be entitled to a federal income tax charitable deduction based on the current market value of the asset at the time of transfer.

If you have questions about donating gifts of stock please contact Director of Business Administration, Julie Kozak via email or 920-617-8712.
