Resources combined to provide basic needs for Green Bay’s homeless
GREEN BAY, Wis. — Capital Credit Union, along with three local businesses, combined resources during a month-long fundraising effort to help those affected by homelessness in the Green Bay community. St. John’s Homeless Shelter received $21,591 in funds to support and provide basic needs for the men and women who are affected by homelessness.
“Capital Credit Union and our president, Tom Young, find it immensely important to provide basics for those who are homeless in our community,” said Lydia Lynch, marketing supervisor at Capital Credit Union. “Raising awareness and breaking the stigma surrounding homelessness is important because each person in our community matters.”
St. John’s Homeless Shelter, the Micah Center and Wellspring believe that no matter the choices you have made, each person has dignity and worth. St. John’s provides meals and a place to sleep during the harsh winter months and in 2018 started a Summer Safe Sleep program to provide shelter for the homeless during the summer months.
“We greatly appreciate the support of Capital Credit Union, Door Ventures, Bay Pest Solutions and Alberts Plastering for their generous support,” said Alexia Wood, St. John’s executive director. “It is gratifying to know many local businesses in our community support our mission to provide dignity and worth to each person, while walking alongside them on their transition back to self-sufficiency.”
Along with providing basic needs, the Micah Center and Wellspring are daytime resource centers for men and women at risk or experiencing homelessness. They offer each guest case management, mental health counseling, on-site medical care, services to help those seeking employment, and opportunities to increase one’s sense of self-worth through giving back.
