National Volunteer Week 2020

By Brooke Graham, Volunteer Coordinator

It’s National Volunteer Week!!!! And this year, during the COVID-19 pandemic, it’s a time unlike any other….and still, St. John’s volunteers are as committed as ever!

All of us at St. John’s are so thankful for YOU! We are thankful that you choose to invest in us with your time, talents and treasure. We know how difficult and uncertain these current times are, and we miss serving in person with you. I had the opportunity to have a virtual meeting with some of you, and I didn’t know how much my soul needed to connect with you–the heart of St. John’s- until I saw each of you on my computer screen. I eagerly await seeing the rest of you!

I recently stumbled upon a quote from the philosopher William James. He said, “Act as if what you do makes a difference. It does.” Friends, I can tell you so many recent guest reflections from the last few weeks, where guests have shared how thankful they are for your prayers, for the food you’re donating, for the support you’re giving, even from afar. What we’re all doing at St. John’s MATTERS SO MUCH. Thank you.

Speaking of our guests–did you know? They are our newest volunteers! In the absence of our long-time volunteers, many guests have stepped in the fill your shoes. In addition to their regular chores, many guests have been helping to serve meals, wash laundry, sort donations, and more. Pandemic or not, the St. John’s family takes care of its own.

And so, I hope that as each of you weather the remaining days of the Safer at Home order, you know how special and important you are. You are a cherished member of the St. John’s family.
