“I can only imagine what the experience of being homeless is and all the things that contribute to needing to be in a mode of survival where you don’t have the time to just be.”
The Mindfulness workshop that Stephanie Birmingham teaches each Wednesday at 10 am at The Micah Center does just that…it provides 50 minutes where our guests have a space to be present and not have to worry about the stresses of life. Many guests say they feel less anxious when they leave.
Steph says, “You can’t talk about homelessness and poverty without talking about mental health and mental well-being. Research shows that the act of being mindful can create a physiological shift to improve one’s well-being.” The Mindfulness workshop helps a person gain perspective on their life and relationship to the world. “I want this to be a space where people can be themselves, share frustrations and be mindful.”
