From Vicki, Office Manager at the Micah Center
Nothing says summer like a backyard barbeque. The aroma of burgers and brats cooking on a charcoal grill, music filling the air, and friends gathered around. Street Lights, Joshua, and Streu’s Pharmacy are each hosting ‘backyard’ events in June either at a local park, or, for Streu’s, in their parking lot. This outreach allows people to get to know each other, make new friends, and enjoy the simple pleasures of the season.
At the Street Lights block parties, Spokes for Hope offers free bike repairs. They also provide bikes and repairs at their St. Vincent de Paul (Leo Frigo Way) location on Monday nights from 5:00-7:00 pm. Traveling by bicycle is a convenience of summer. When your bike is tuned up, riding is a joy.
There are two other tasks that businesses and organizations are making possible, washing clothes and getting a haircut. Laundry Love in conjunctions with Corner Coin Laundry offers monthly laundry on the east and west sides of Green Bay. Laundry Love also offers an occasional pop-up barbershop. And our own Dr. Dave comes twice a month on Mondays to the Micah Center with his clippers and comb. A fresh haircut and clean clothes just enable a person to feel good.
This month, as I typed entries onto the calendar, I was struck by the number of different businesses and organizations that reach out during the summer to provide beneficial ‘goods’ and services to the community. Their loving care is a blessing for which we are grateful.
If you are aware of events or services that I should post on the calendar I share with our guests, email fliers or details to email@example.com.
