Chords for Change concert announced

Concert performed by singer-songwriter Peter Mayer, who connects through music about the human journey and life on earth.

GREEN BAY, Wis. — St. John’s Ministries has announced Chords for Change, a benefit concert, on Saturday, October 15 at 7:30 pm at the Ashwaubenon Performing Arts Center. Singer-songwriter Peter Mayer will connect through his music about the human journey and life on earth. This concert is sponsored by Dolly’s Manure Fund.

The concert will benefit St. John’s Ministries, a non-profit organization in Green Bay, that provides services and resources to those experiencing homelessness or housing instability. The organization operates two seasonal emergency shelters of last resort (Men’s Shelter and Women’s Shelter) and two daytime resource centers (Micah Center and Wellspring).

“Peter Mayer has been supporting St. John’s Ministries for some time and we are pleased to have him come to Green Bay and perform this concert,” said St. John’s Ministries Director of Community Engagement Steve Schauer. “This will be a wonderful and intimate night to watch and listen to Peter connect through solo performance on stage.”

Peter Mayer, from Minnesota, has been singing and songwriting full-time for 25 years, performing in venues across the United States and beyond. He writes about interconnectedness, the human journey, life on earth and the mysterious and wondrous fact of our existence. Mayer’s work has been included in song books, church hymnals, and folk radio playlists across the country. He is the recipient of fellowships from the McKnight and the Bush foundations. Mayer has 11 albums to his credit and has sold over 100,000 copies.

The 2021-22 emergency shelter season was the busiest St. John’s Ministries had ever seen. A total of 567 guests were provided shelter and an average of 115 guests were served each night. With the current housing crisis in the community St. John’s is expecting to see similar numbers in the coming shelter season beginning on November 1, 2023. Homelessness is a community problem with a community solution.

About St. John’s Ministries:

St. John’s Ministries’ mission is to honor the dignity, restore hope and create lasting change for those experiencing homelessness or housing instability in the greater Green Bay community. At St. John’s Ministries, we believe that each person is unique, with the same inherent worth as the day they were born. We meet each of our guests right where they’re at and walk alongside them on their journey. Our vision is that through a spirit of familiarity, rapport and trust, each person will leave better than they came. Services are provided across four locations. At our two seasonal emergency shelters of last resort, we provide adults experiencing homelessness with a safe place to sleep during the harsh winter months. At the Micah Center and Wellspring, our two daytime resource centers, we equip adults experiencing homelessness – as well as community members at-risk – with the tools to achieve self-sufficiency.
